The Porsche 918 Spyder is Porsche’s attempt at a hybrid supercar, and by no means is it a bad one. With only 918 cars world wide they are pretty rare. It was first shown as a concept at the 80th Geneva Motor Show in March 2010, but the first production model was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September of 2013. Production began in mid September of 2013 and came out of production in June 2015. The 918 was sold out by December 2014 with the USA being the country with the most orders. It was Porsche’s second plug-in hybrid only after the 2014 Panamera S E-Hybrid.

The exterior shows both elegance and aggression at the same time, which a car of this standard should. It has a presence about it. There are no sharp edges, just gentle curves and swoops. The front has two nice air vents that are examples of the coolness and softness of the car. It has one large hood that partially slopes down. Another thing that I love about this car are its headlights. I like the way that they curve down closer towards the air vents. If you look even closer at them you will notice that there is sort of a square in them at the top, which I also really like. This Porsche 918 had some sort of carbon fiber package because there was a removable roof that was made with carbon fiber. Also, the spoiler at the back is made out of it too. There are more air vents that cut into the door and cool down the engine behind the driver. The rear is quite awe-inspiring as well. The large spoiler is a major part of the back. Under that you have the word Porsche and then 918 Spyder which kind of has this lime green shadow. These light green accents are all over the car and I think it is to point out that it’s a hybrid. To either side of the name and model you see these triangular red rear end lights that protrude slightly from a small overhang. Under both of those are some more air vents. Yet another part of the rear that I like is where the exhaust pipes are. There are two of them and the are top mounted one behind each of the seats in the interior. I really like the way that this car looks.

Just because this is a hybrid does not mean that it doesn’t have good performance. In fact, this vehicle has unbelievable performance. In total this car has three engines. The gasoline engine is a 4.6 Liter V8 that creates 608 horsepower. The other two engines are electric motors pushing out a further 279 horsepower for a combined 887 horsepower. The rear electric engine with 154 hp drives the rear axle along with the petrol engine. The front motor with 125 horsepower directly drives the front axle. With all of the technology going on when this car is driving it allows it to reach the optimal performance. The Porsche 918 can go from 0-60 miles an hour in 2.2 seconds. Car and Driver said that it was the fastest car that they had ever tested. It can also go from 0-100 in 4.9 seconds. This car is truly quick. It has a top speed of 230 mph. Because this car is a hybrid you have the option to drive it multiple ways such as in an electric mode, a gas mode, and a combination of the two.

The interior of the 918 is modern, sleek, and full of technology. Everything has a simple-ish design. The seats are nicely finished, also with carbon fiber on the doors and behind the seats. To navigate around most of the functions in this car you have two displays in the center. There is a long horizontal one right between the seats and a smaller vertical one that pops up above it. There are also some functions on the steering wheel. All of this doesn’t come in at a cheap price though. The base price is $847,000. This is quite a lot of money, but I guess that’s what you pay for Porsche’s finest.
